Kupigana Ngumi (Afrakan Martial Art)

 

Kupigana Ngumi, studied martial arts under Grandmaster Nganga Mfundishi Y.T. Tolo Naa co-founder of Kupigana Ngumi and the creator of Kiungo Cha Mkono (Shackle Hand). The goals of the organization are to establish and maintain an appreciation of Afrakan and Afrakan American culture and to demonstrate Afraka’s contribution to the martial arts community worldwide. The company captures the martial, philosophical, and dance aspects of traditional African warrior training. Martial movements are hidden within traditional dance. The repertoire ranges from fluid to striking and sizzling fighting movements.

 

Tai Chi Chuan/Tai Ji Quan (UNIVERSAL ‘Grand Ultimate’ BOXING)

 

Tai Chi, is a slow and gentle form of exercise that was developed in China from the martial   arts. The movements are based on postures that shift the weight from one leg to another. Together with arm movements that recall the martial arts, these postures create the form. The form is a series of movements that flow one after another.

Health Benefits

Today Tai Chi is mostly studied for its health benefits. While an hour of Tai Chi drills may   bring the body into an aerobic state, typical practice is not in the aerobic range. It is more in the range of a moderately fast-paced walk. However, health researchers have noted benefits for reducing the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, arthritis, and other diseases. The movements and postures strengthen legs, flex the joints, and improve balance. Coordinating breathing with the slow movements allows the student to take in and utilize more oxygen. Movements that twist and turn the waist stimulate major internal organs in the midsection. Tai Chi practitioners believe that Tai Chi increases the flow of "chi", or life force energy, through the meridians or energy channels of the body. The result is more vitality and a healthier body
