Born October 5, 1956 given name Jawara Nantambu 1970. A Practitioner of Martial  Arts/Sciences since August 1968 given name Jawara Nantambu 1970.

 

Training in Karate, Northern Shaolin Chuan, Chang Chuan, Wushu, Kupigana Ngumi, Popular and Imperial Secret Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan and related weapon principles (Broadsword, Sword, Staff and Spear), from 1968 to present under 1960's World Champion; Grandmaster Nganga Mfundishi Y.T. Tolo Naa (Raymond Cooper) Chicago Heights, Illinois presently living in Maryland DC area. As a inspiration for many of our new students who came to learn from my teacher Nganga Tolo Naa has produced many Champions such as (Oso Mfundishi Tayari Casel, Mfundishi Olafemi, and Mfundishi K. Vita and myself Mwalimu Mkuu Jawara Nantambu) to name a few.

 

Modern/Contemporary Wushu 1981 - 1987 with National Forms and Weapons Champion 1970's and early 80's with Peter Rueben Morales Aurora, Colorado.

 

Mwalimu Jawara received, National and Regional Ratings in Black Belt Forms and Weapons. With A.K.A. (American Karate Association), NASKA (North American Sport Karate Association), MWTC (Midwest Tournament Circuit), PKL (Professional Karate League) and Reeves Ratings. Mentioned in Martial Arts Magazines such as Karate Illustrated and Official Karate. Mrs. Mary Townsend written about Mwalimu Jawara (Midwest scene) many issues of Official Karate. As a youth traveled the country demonstrating at University’s, Colleges and other venues. Accumulated over 500 awards competing in Local and National competitions through out the United States from 1982 until 1990. Since 1976, Jawara has trained many students who have gone on to do well themselves, teaching and competing locally, regionally and on the national circuit. In 1983 Jawara was the pioneer of Wushu in the Mid-West (Chicago, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa & Minnesota) part of the country. Several students under the guidance of Mwalimu Jawara & Malenga Muriel, distinguished themselves by becoming 1994 & 1995 triple crown winners of FLMA, Florida League of Martial Artists, competing in three Martial Arts disciplines; forms, weapons and fighting. Jawara Nantambu can be scene on the August 2008 issue of Sport Martial arts offline magazine.

 

Accomplishments

1972 - Competed sparingly Karate events throughout the US, from 1969 to 1981.

1982 - #2 Black Belt Weapons behind, The 1988 Olympic Champion Gold Medalists', Arlene Limas, tournaments promoted by the Midwest Tournament Circuit.

1983-1990       #1 National Chinese Forms Champion , American Karate Association.

1983-1990 Top Five in Black Belt Weapons with American Karate Association.

1985  Voted one of the Top Ten Instructors in Midwest Tournament Circuit.

1986,1988,1990 Overall Black Belt Forms Champion AKA.

1986, 1988 Black Belt Competitor of the Year Second runner up.

1990 # 1 Open (Musical) Forms Competitor, American Karate Association.

1990 Black Belt Competitor of the Year runner up.

1991 Moved to Florida Started training the next generation of Kung fu / Wushu Artists.

1995 Black Belt Chinese Forms Champion, and   Black Belt Weapons Champion, FLMA (Florida League of Martial Artists)

1994 October 30th Certificate of Acknowledgement (AKA) Grand Nationals American Warrior Cup Finals

1995 March 18th Certificate of Appreciation (FLMA) Florida League of Martial Artists

1999-2000 Elected Vice President of FLMA. Florida League of Martial Artists

2001-2003 Selected One of Coaches of Team FLMA (Forms, Weapons,  and Demonstration Team) This Team traveled the State of Florida competing and accepting challenges from many other Teams’ at Karate Tournaments large and small.
